The Local Leaders Club has 5 small groups in 2021-2022: On Campus, Fundraising, Media Outreach, Policy Education, and Youth Outreach. On-Campus works to make our campus and community more sustainable through eco-friendly changes such as setting up the 3 bin system and solar panels. Fundraising designs, markets, and produces Local Leaders Merchandise for the AV Sustainability Shop. Media Outreach works to create outreach that encourages sustainability through various online platforms such as Youtube and Instagram, as well as through newsletters and blogs. The Policy Education group works to inform our community about environmental policy and works with the local government in order to enforce laws and incentive programs. Youth Outreach works with the elementary schools to grow sustainable habits in the next generation of Local Leaders. Together, we make up the Local Leaders of the 21st century, a club that works to improve environmental awareness and increase community involvement in environmentally based policy!
What our members have to say -
Unforgettable. Such was my experience at the club! Though it was my first year and we were all online, the experience was certainly memorable. Coming into high school, I knew I wanted to become involved in an environmental endeavor. Local Leaders was far better than I had imagined. All the projects, presentations, and activities reflected the officer team's incredible hard work and dedication. I had the opportunity to hone my interest in writing by blogging as a "current event" reporter. I learnt so much being amongst and conversing with such a wonderful group. I actually got to know new people and feel part of a community. If you want to be associated with a national organization (Go Green), talk to esteemed individuals (organization heads & city council members), learn a ton about sustainability, the environment, and personal impact, all from different angles, Local Leaders is the right place for you. This is a club of opportunity, and I know I will be carrying and further utilizing all that I have learnt!

Local Leaders has always been a fun club that I looked forward to attend to. The club meetings are always interesting, engaging, but also informational at the same time. Ever since I joined the club after being convinced by a friend, I notice myself making conscious decisions that protects the planet, and found myself enjoying every memory I share with the club.

While this is my first year in LLC, I had a great time being a part of this club as we had movie nights and guest speakers together as a club. Meetings with the journalism writers group was always entertaining as we would chat and brainstorm for article ideas together! Everyone in our journalism small group have different ways of participating and being a part of our club, Local Leaders of the 21st century :)

Local leaders is an amazing club, you get to work on interesting projects, and learn about Pleasanton from a point of view that you might not have thought of before. Since the club deals with policy, we get to influence and educate on local policies. In the journalism small group, you can write articles about things that concern the environment on topics that interest you. You are afforded one of a kind opportunities that will impact on the community and leave your mark. And perhaps best of all, you learn so much, not just about policy or the environment, but how to communicate to high ranking officials, connect with people who have a different perspective, and how to become a versatile tool for change. I highly recommend this club for anyone interested in having an impact, learning, or having fun 😁
