Another new member of Local Leaders, Sruthi Kumar (9), explained that she joined this small group because she “liked the video aspect of it, such as interacting with YouTube”. She went on to describe the many interesting topics being considered for an upcoming video essay. As part of the shopping habits group, Sruthi has been doing research on the local restaurants and other stores in Pleasanton; trying to determine the spending trends of our town’s citizens.
My last interviewee, Keith Li, is also a freshman. His “passion for video editing” is what made him choose to become part of the Video Media small group. In these past few months, he’s been putting a lot of time and effort into this club, from volunteering to edit all of the videos to producing his own recordings. He used the last part of the interview to promote this essential component of Local Leaders, concluding, “I think it would be great if more people started using video media as a way to express themselves in a positive and nature friendly light.” After speaking to these hardworking club members, I learned a lot more about how the Video Media group spreads awareness of certain climate issues (such as extensive water consumption, waste production, and more) through short, engaging videos. Support them through their YouTube channel; have fun watching!

The journalism small group is so productive, and it actually feels like you are doing something. You have so many opportunities to collaborate with people you probably would not have met otherwise. I have made so many friends in this small group, and club meetings are always entertaining.
